RECOMMENDED SOFTWARE
Unlike some agencies, we will NOT require that you use
specific software, because we value Freedom and respect your right and
capacity to choose the tools that work best for you.
We do, however, highly recommend the following FREE/OPEN
SOURCE SOFTWARE, and often give preference to providers who
are using it (thankfully, it is all FREE):
- Open Office- a free/open source office suite with tools for text, spreadsheets, html editing, drawing, database front end, presentations, etc. Open office does everything other office suites do, and more, and it is FREE. It runs on Windows, Linux or Mac.
- Omega T - Free/open source CAT/Translation Memory program. Runs on Windows, Mac or Linux. Uses standard .tmx files for translation memory (compatible with Wordfast and Trados). Requires the use of Open Office for conversion of some file formats, can handle .ttx files, even.
- Anaphraseus - Wordfast like CAT tool, free/open source software, works with OpenOffice, great for uncleaned doc and rtf files.
- TransProCalc - Free/open source translation project management software, by Tony Baldwin.
- TuxTrans - a complete GNU/Linux operating system for translators, including all of the above software, plus terminology management tools, concordance and text analysis tools, video subtitling software, software localization tools, and much more.
